Professor George Dutton
Department of Asian Languages and Cultures divider

George Dutton is Professor in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures. He is a specialist in Vietnamese history and teaches courses on premodern and modern Vietnam at UCLA. He is co-editor of the definitive volume on Vietnamese historical texts, Sources of Vietnamese Tradition. He is also the author of two books on early modern Vietnamese history, The Tay Son Uprising: Society and Rebellion in Eighteenth-Century Vietnam (Hawaii Press, 2006) and A Vietnamese Moses Philiphê Bỉnh and the Geographies of Early Modern Catholicism (UC Press, 2016). He has been visiting and conducting research in Vietnam since 1990.
