Beth Christine Bloom ’99 passed peacefully Saturday, Nov. 15, at the age of 48.
Her final days were spent in a place of beauty, a peaceful turn-of-the-century bungalow, surrounded by greenery and a community of people who loved her. Bloom was born in West Covina, California, attended Christ Lutheran Church and School and then West Covina High School. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and English from UCLA.
Bloom had a rich and varied career with writing and research at its heart. Freelance work gave her the freedom to travel. From 2004 to 2011, she worked for the UCLA History Project, including as associate director, where she was instrumental in the publication of the book “UCLA: The First Century” in 2011.
Her Uncle Allen and Aunt Holly remarked, “Beth was surrounded by love because she gave love freely. She had a rare ability to connect: to listen, care and be fully present. People were drawn to her warmth, kindness and authenticity. Her presence could brighten a room. She was smart beyond measure, beautiful inside and out, and deeply human in the best sense of the word. To say she will be missed feels inadequate. Beth made a difference – a profound one – simply by being who she was.”
Bloom is survived by her mother Ronea, brothers Jay and Paul, and sister Heather.
